Penny University Blend
Penny University Blend
This coffee is a medium / dark blend of South American & African coffee beans.
Why Penny University?
Coffeehouses in Oxford in the 17th Century used to be called Penny Universities. These establishments charged a penny to enter and provided a place for intellectual discussion. A penny was either the cost of admission or the price of a cup of coffee. College students and virtuosos would frequent Penny Universities to learn, debate and have serious discussions in a setting outside of the standard college classroom.
Fun Fact: Based on the average inflation rate, a Penny University patron paid $2.05 for a cup of coffee. Pretty close to the price of a cup of coffee in today’s world!
Penny is also the name of our first dog, featured in the label drawing. She’s a constant companion for us and it only made sense to name a blend after her too.
